New
Mexico lies in the southwestern part of the United
States. This state has been inhabited by the Native
American people for a very long time. Of all the states
in the United States, New Mexico is said to have about
45% of Hispanics, which is the highest in the country.
This state also has the third largest population of
Native Americans in the United States.
The culture of
the state has been influenced by Native American,
Mexican and Spanish traditions and cultures. New Mexico
does not as much population as the other states and it
is considered to be the sixth least populated state in
the country. There are about 1,984,356 people living
here.
The area of New Mexico is about 315,110 square
kilometers and even though this is considered to be a
large state, it does not have much water.
The surface
water in this state is about six hundred and fifty
square kilometers approximately and the rate of
precipitation is only three hundred and eighty
millimeters per year.
The main languages spoken in this
state are English and Spanish. There is no official
language in New Mexico. Many of the people living in New
Mexico are Roman Catholics.
