People With Disabilities And Brainwave Technology

Leading scientific research has indicated that it’s becoming increasingly likely that brainwave technology and biofeedback may actually be helpful in treating some mental disabilities.

This is most likely in the treatment of a disorder such as ADD or ADHD.

In ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), a person’s brain operates in Theta (relaxation or dreaming) frequencies when it should be operating in Beta (coherence, focus) frequencies, or the brain resonates in an untidy, disorderly mix of Theta and Beta brainwaves.

The result is a child who seems to be always dreaming, always letting their mind wander, and never paying attention when you speak.

Some level of daydreaming is to be expected in children; remember, they are not yet adults and they aren’t to be expected to focus for long periods of time.

In ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Theta brain waves are consistently suppressed while Beta brain waves are encouraged.

The result is a brain that never stops working and a child who can’t seem to sit still. As with attention deficit disorder, it’s important not to assume that normal childhood exuberance is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Any child will be normally bouncy most of the time.

It’s only if the child is active 90 to 95 percent of the time and/or he or she has difficulty concentrating on things that other children his or her age have no difficulty concentrating on (for example, a thirty or forty-five-second story or anecdote that other children of similar age and taste enjoy) that you should look into ADHD.

In both cases, brainwave technology may be beneficial. For sufferers from ADD, Beta base brainwave technology, or a combination of Beta and Theta base brainwave technology, can help the brain to function normally within Beta parameters, leading to increased concentration and better productivity.

For ADHD sufferers, on the other hand, relaxing Theta base or even Alpha base brainwave technology can help calm hyperactive brainwaves and tame them into something more manageable, for both parents and children.

Also, strange though it may sound, actually combining Theta base brainwave technology with Beta base brainwave technology can help the child become more focused; still more relaxed, but able to concentrate better and accomplish more.

Most parents will agree that the best thing about brainwave technology is that it uses absolutely no drugs of any kind.

Instead, the child’s own brain is taught to be more focused and attentive, through the use of simple sound therapies. The brain naturally resonates in harmony with certain frequencies.

And different brain harmonies are synonymous with different levels of focus and relaxation.

Nor are Attention Disorders and Attention Hyperactivity Disorders the only things that brainwave technologies may be able to help or even cure.

Research is currently ongoing in several different fields where brainwave technology may have some application at some point in the future.

It’s still uncertain whether brainwave technology will, in fact, be able to do much beyond these simpler, more easily treatable Attention Disorders, but research is underway in areas such as using Alpha and Delta base waves in treating or preventing seizures, in retarding the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and in several other areas.

If it deals with the brain and it keeps people from living full, satisfying lives, it’s possible that brainwave technology may be able to help with it.
