Learning More About Astrology From A Global Perspective

Today, many people mistakenly believe that Chinese, Western, and Indian Astrology has an enormous amount of difference from each other.

At the same time, a brief review of any map will reveal that almost all of the western astrology deals only with constellations and planetary motions viewable to the north of the equator.

Perhaps, then, it should come as no surprise that astrology is often considered inaccurate and imprecise at best.

It is important to realize that almost all of the zodiac names we currently use were derived from Greek and Roman naming systems. Contemporary archaeologists are increasingly revealing that the Greeks and Romans developed almost nothing of their own.

This includes an ever-mounting pile of evidence in regard to mythological systems and esoteric teachings.

As an example, a little bit of research will reveal that the Romans simply renamed and reclassified the Greek Gods and mythologies.

The Greeks, in turn, co-opted an enormous amount of information from  Mesopotamia and other Middle Eastern civilizations.  The Middle East, in turn, took their information from India and China.

At the very least, if you want a good understanding of western astrology, it is crucial to start with the mythologies and star patterns selected by the people of India and China.

When it comes to China, this includes learning more about flying star Feng Shui, as well as the currently accepted astrological symbols.  You may also want to study the I-Ching in order to learn more about the origin of both these systems.

As may be expected, when you start learning about astrology from an Oriental perspective, you will be amazed at the richness and variety of information that is often missing in contemporary western astrology.

Unfortunately, there may be no such thing as an astrology system that encompasses the entire world.

Among other things, we know next to nothing about how the indigenous people of Australia, South America, and Africa viewed the stars and their effects on the destiny of humanity.

At the same time, the numerous conquerors that over-ran these areas did not integrate indigenous astrological information into western astrology.

If you are serious about learning how celestial motions impact life in this world, you will need to do a great deal of research.

In addition, you may also find that you need to integrate an enormous amount of information from points all over the world.  As may be expected, there is no guarantee that your results will be any more accurate than the ones offered by contemporary astrologers.

That said, at least you will enjoy the process of learning about many different cultures, and seeing how each society fits into a global network.
