Digital Camera Memory

The digital camera memory is an electronic card that is used to store images in a digital format. The process is relatively simple.

Light is focused through the lens on to the electronic sensor, which takes the place of film. The sensor converts the image into an electronic impulse that is compressed and stored in the memory of the digital camera.

Digital cameras usually have a memory capacity of 64 Mb (Megabyte), 128 Mb, 256 Mb, 512 Mb, or 1Gb (Gigabyte).

You can transfer the images from the camera memory to your computer or laptop or have them printed. You can preview the photos and delete the ones you don’t like.

Most cameras come with a reusable memory card that can be changed when the memory becomes full.

Cameras usually come with a low-capacity memory card, with a capacity of 16 MB or 32 MB. These can store only a few high-resolution photos. If you plan to take more photos you need to buy a memory card with higher capacity.

The size of the card depends on the resolution of your digital camera and the number of pictures you want to take in each session.

If you get a camera with a high resolution, you will need a card with a high capacity to store the images.

If you shoot about a hundred photos in each photo session and you have a 3 megapixel camera, you will need to get a memory card with a capacity of at least 256 Mb.

With a 7-megapixel camera, you will need at least 512 Mb of memory space to store 100 pictures.

Some people get the highest capacity memory card that they can afford to meet all their needs. Others prefer to keep several memory cards, so that if one gets damaged or lost, they will another one to fall back on.

If you need a memory card with a capacity of 512 Mb, you can also consider buying two 256 Mb cards, which may be cheaper than a single 512 Mb card. Ideally, you should get a high quality branded card.

If you go on a trip with your digital camera, you may still run out of space to store your photos. Getting a card with a higher capacity or spare memory cards may cost too much.

You can carry your notebook computer along and transfer the images to the hard drive, or add a portable CD-RW drive or DVD-RW drive, and store the images on CDs or DVDs.

If you don’t want to carry a notebook when you are on the road, you can consider using a portable hard disk, to which you can transfer images from your memory card.

You can also transfer images to a Clik! Drive, which uses a 2-inch Clik! disk. When one Clik! The disk is full you can replace it with another one. Transfer the images to your computer when you return home.
