A research on Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) proved that people, who lost weight and improved their way of life and health habits, could actually recover completely from this night breathing problem.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea is caused by the momentary failure of the soft tissue in the throat, which triggers off continual disturbances in the breathing and possible snoring or tiredness in during the day.
A study was conducted on a number of people with weight problems who were then submitted to an improved lifestyle and diet. These patients lost weight and suffered considerably less from sleep apnea.
These overweight patients suffering from the beginnings of OSA were given strict programmes and drastically changed their lifestyles, they dieted for a period of three months and were offered counselling session for daily exercising and healthier dieting.
During the period of one year patients dropped more than 20 pounds averagely and the weight loss was proportional to the diminishing of the OSA symptoms.
Amongst the patients who lost more than 30 pounds, over 80 percent were completely cured from OSA.
The patients in the research also showed results in improved heart conditions, lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
This research can then affirm with certainty that OSA can be treated with a healthy regimen and weight control and the earlier these changes are stated the more likely patients can hope to overcome this problem.
People who suffer from OSA are more likely to suffer from heart diseases, due to the constant cut off of the oxygen afflux to the body and brain.
This oxygen deficiency can raise the blood pressure and damage the cardiovascular system on the long run.
