New Techniques For Assisted Reproductive Technology

A new advanced technique has been successfully implemented by a group of British researchers in relation to test-tube fertilization.

Millions of babies in the world have seen the light with the use of assisted reproductive technology.

This involves the process of removing eggs from the ovaries with the surgical operation and combining the sperm with the egg in the laboratory, then finally implanting the embryo back into the uterus.

Until now the embryos were observed through the microscope in order to choose the best of the two, by checking for outer signs of chromosome deficiency, then finally choosing the better shaped of the two or even both embryos for the implant.

As this technique was not very precise it could lead to miscarriages, now with the improved technique the eggs are scanned for chromosome imperfections with a highly sophisticated programme, which can detect which of eggs will most likely lead to pregnancy.

Experts take a specimen of part of the egg, which will not condition the fertilization process, in order to examine the chromosomes for abnormalities or deficiencies.

The aim of this technique is to improve the possibilities of pregnancy with just one embryo implant and avoid miscarriages and multiple births.

The technique is still recent but promises to offer more sophisticated evaluation and improved techniques for all couples that have difficulty with implantation treatments.
