A proper intake of Vitamin A from childhood can give constant support to combat this problem even when you are in your sixties.

Deficit of Vitamin A is believed to be one of the causes of childhood blindness. If your child is aged between six months and six years, he or she is highly at the risk of developing blindness.

A pregnant or a lactating woman can develop this disease very easily. So during your pregnancy, you have increased the level of vitamin A in your diet to prevent your baby’s health that is yet to see the light on the earth.

What does Vitamin A do to your eyes? It maintains the proper activities of the photosensitive tissues of your eyes. If you have ever undergone an intestinal surgery, you are at a high risk of becoming vitamin A deficient.

You will find rich amounts of vitamin A in various vegetables and different fruits. Sweet potato, carrot, butternut squash etc. are Vitamin A rich food.

Among the non-vegetarian stuff beef, chicken, cod liver oil, liver, etc are very nutritious. Mangoes, red pepper are also important to combat the Vitamin A deficit. They are more effective when they are raw.

After being cooked they lose some of their food values. Vitamin A and beta carotene levels of these foods are to some extent destroyed at high temperatures. So you have to choose fresh fruits and frozen food items rather than the canned ones.
