Iowa
is a central state of the USA, with its gracefully
undulating fields and plains, lakes, recreation areas
and numerous scenic parks.
It also has a rich cultural heritage, examples of which
can be viewed at the German Amana Colonies, boasting
numerous museums and sites.
The capital De Moines, named by the first French
explorers is a city rich in amusement parks and
interesting museums, such as the Science Center of Iowa
and the Capitol Building. De Moines is also a great
place for jazz, with daily concerts throughout July. In
Indianola there is the National Balloon Museum, where
during the National Balloon Classic the skies fill up
with colorful hot air balloons. Iowa City is another
place with many historical sites, the Iowa University
campus and museums.
The Maquoketa Caves State Park is the most unique park
in Iowa; here one can explore the area and caves, where
early Native American artifacts have been found. Along
the two national scenic byways there are magnificent
views to be has, notably on the Loose Hills Scenic Byway
that follows the Missouri River in the west and on the
Great River Road along the Mississippi River in the
east.
The summers in Iowa are hot and humid, while winters are
cold with snowstorms and occasional blizzards.
