Columbia
is situated in South America with the Caribbean and the
Pacific Ocean in the west and Panama, Ecuador, Peru,
Brazil and Venezuela on its land borders. The land is
enclosed by the Andes that run from the north to the
south right to the Caribbean coast’s lowlands.
Bogotį is the capital of Colombia situated at an
altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level and throughout
the country the official language is Spanish, although
many local dialects as well as English, French, German
and Italian are spoken.
The country is a treasure trove of untainted mountainous
areas, jungles and coastline as well as magnificent
archeological sites and sites offering a rich cultural
past. Columbia’s reputation for drug dealing must not
deter tourists’ enthusiasm to visit the country as it
offers a myriad of attractions and natural beauty.
The sites not to miss are the Caribbean coast with its
turqoise waters, the immense expanse of the Amazon Basin
with its lakes and plains as well as the lost cities of
magnificent pre-Columbian art and the typical colonial
houses to be found in most of the picutresque towns
througout the country.
The Tayrona National Park is a
must, with its beautiful beaches and coral reefs as is
the Islas del Rosario with its mangroves and mud
volcano, while the tropical islands of San Andreąs are
considered as the gems of the Caribbean.
San Agustin is one of South America’s most facinating
archeological sites where one can admire pre-Columbian
tombs and statues as well as megalithic sculptures and
religious monuments.
The climate is a tropical one varying considerably
according to the area, humid on the coast with pleasant
winds, while it can get quite cold during the night in
the montainous regions.
