Costa
Rica lies between Panama and Nicaragua in Central
America with the Pacific Ocean on one side and the
Atlantic on the other. The country is dominated by high
mountain peaks of tectonic origin in the south and hit
mountain ranges of volcanic origin in the Northwest,
while the central region offers an ideal climate with
its Meseta Central plateau; this is where the capital
San José is situated.
The country is a paradise of pristine coastlines,
savannahs, rainforests, rivers and mountain ranges that
boast many national parks such as the Tortuguero
National Park, where hawksbill, green, loggerhead,
Ridley and leatherback turtles can be spotted. Costa
Rica also has an amazing array of different landscapes
and mircolimates where one can find a large number of
flora and fauna species.
It is also a country that offers plenty of outdoor
activities such as scuba-diving, rafting, surfing,
trekking to name a few. Nature lovers will be captivated
by the pristine forests and marine world. The Arenal
volcano is the place to be for spectacular sights, as it
erupts regularly offering a spectacle of pyrotechnics.
For those who are in search of culture, San José offers
plenty to see with its National Museum and Museum of
Pre-Colombian Gold. The town of Cartago and the valley
of Orosi are also magnificent architecural sites.
The climate can vary to tropical on the coast, with
frequent rainfall on the Atlantic Ocean, while the
mountain areas can get quite chilly during the night.
